little do they know …

August 22, 2008

being a permanent townie in a college town allows for one to …

sleep with one eye open

plan the year’s bar crawl

debrief on all the drama before it even lands …

to set the trends

and the tragedies.

welcome back students!

unsure

July 23, 2008

rolled my eyes

to keep from being crushed under thought

maybe i was just infatuated with the idea of.

but weren’t they all, too?

and every once. every while.

we turned into something real. something to speak of.

refocused my eyes.

babies

July 10, 2008

while vacaying with my family (including my one-year-old nephew) i decided that i want kids. litte jermainias. sure there would be hard times. but there would also be a certain pep in my step from the joy of raising a child.

the next day i decided that i wanted a pair of gucci loafers, because they too add a certain pep in one’s step.

gucci: 1. babies: 0.

summer backlash

June 9, 2008

and then there’s this brief flash of frustration with summer

that happens … oh, about … now.

because the faaaaabulous summer you had planned

isn’t going to be as easy as planned.

because that sizzlin’ summer

is gonna take a little more heat than you thought.

because the boys of summer have yet to shape up to be the joys of summer.

because the relationships with some of your bestests

go through the worst mood swings.

because you love who you want to be in the summer.

but you don’t love who you might become.

don’t tell a drag queen on the street that you are looking for a “man dog.”

because later that night during her show, she will politely ask for “the young african american gentleman” then proceed to call you out.

on next weekend

May 17, 2008

i will be reunited with some of my faves for a glorious memorial day weekend in ft. lauderdale and key west.

the question is: how many kimonos does one need for such a trip?

just so you know

May 5, 2008

i’m looking at my birth certificate (i needed it for passport purposes).

and i was born a male.

there are doubts sometimes.

all macs go to heaven?

April 23, 2008

i hope so.

because in one of the most outrageous vacays i’ve been on, my roommate hilariously mananged to flood our room (and damage some others prolly) in a historic hotel.

not so hi-lar was the fact that my old mac was on the floor. apparently water came dripping from the keyboard when they lifted it from the wreckage. the geniuses at the applye store did a bit of gasping when they saw it.

so i was a widow for a few days.

then i upgraded to the wondrous macbook pro. he’s my new boyfriend. he stays on my mind. i think about him all the time. i see him in my dreams.

on friends

March 30, 2008

struck up a conversation about TLC (and my love for Left Eye) at a party the other night. these lyrics later came to mind:
“What about your friends
Will they stand their ground
Will they let you down again
What about your friends
Are they gonna be low down
Will they ever be around …
Or will they turn their back on you?”

it’s funny how when i first heard that song back in the day (‘92 maybe?) i had no clue what they were talking about. and now? i don’t have the answers.
but i do have many experience in the matter.
i’m going to sip coffee on the other side of the table actually.
just in case he were to look this way.
